I have repeatedly felt and bore witness to grief of earth shattering proportions. Sorrow so deep and unexpected that life seems to grind to a halt while the world keeps carrying on as usual. It rips people apart while they pretend to be okay.

In my sculptures I attempt to represent the beauty that exists within this pain. It’s inevitable that pain will gouge out holes in your life just as I carve holes through my work. Grief will leave scars, rough edges, and change who you are, but with the human inclination to persevere we all find our own ways to heal. We lick our wounds and sand down rough edges, we can’t reverse our trauma, but we all find ways to cope. Using organic shapes and negative space I attempt to capture that sense of perseverance in my sculptures. I want to show grief in a beautiful way because it is one of the most beautiful and painful reminders of our humanity.

I am currently a BFA student living and working in Huntsville, Alabama while studying sculpture at the University of Alabama Huntsville. I love working with wood but am taking advantage of my time as a student to explore as many mediums as possible.
